Philosophy and Assignment Samples
The role of a Teacher Librarian within a school is complex and varies greatly between schools and districts. Teacher Librarians are unique in their role because they serve the school community as well as the greater community. Catering to the needs of administration, classroom and complimentary teachers, as well as students and their families fit within the Teacher Librarian's service role. I have been called a servant leader as I am one who leads by quietly serving others. My wealth of experience with technology from both a teaching position and a deployment standpoint fit perfectly into the current needs of professionals in a Teacher Librarian position in a library or Learning Commons. I am a thorough and reflective teacher, who benefits from the wealth of information and sharing of experiences with others. Over the years, I have come to understand and appreciate that I cannot do my job effectively alone - I need to network with other educators, offer suggestions, request feedback, observe others and be observed by others. I need effective and supportive administration who understands the importance for teachers' professional development and encourages me to branch out and explore the goings-on of others in their own classrooms and schools. As demonstrated by my dedication to receive my diploma in a timely manner, I am eager and well-prepared to expand my expertise and continue to serve others on Vancouver Island in the 2019-2020 school year.
Below you will see samples of my course work to date which includes collection analysis, weeding, learning commons exploration, various technologies to be used by schools and students, as well as my own blogging and reflection.
